Guilds

There are more guilds in the city than anyone cares to keep track of, jewelers, scribes, stoneworkers, glassblowers, caretakers, weavers, rivermen, brewers, alchemists, innkeepers, tavernkeepers and so on… They all have their domains and influence which they guard fiercely. Anyone seeking employment in the Lyreguard or Free Defenders, for example, must be a member of the Society of Arms. Membership in a guild is more or less mandatory in order to do business in the city, for a fee of course.
